Hanmer Springs is a resort town in the Canterbury region, most well known for it's natural thermal pools and spa.
We took this time to have a real relax, indulge in the rock pools, soak in the soothing sulphur pools (these come with a bit of a whiff!),and experience the jets, bubbles and waterfalls as we lazied around for most of the day.
Each pool has a different design and temperature and is set amongst beautiful bush and forest.
THE MOLESWORTH STATION?
It was from Hanmer that we did some investigating on the ‘Molesworth’. Molesworth Station is New Zealands largest farm park and is arguably one of New Zealand’s most scenic drives. It starts just outside of Hanmer and meanders North towards Blenheim through rocky mountain sides and rolling river gulleys. However....at the start of our trip we had discovered that this road has restrictions. Only certain times of the year is it open but more importantly there are no trailers allowed. This would prevent us from doing this at all. It is also mostly gravel. So we thought, how can we do this if we cannot take our trailer through? And also how can it fit into our itinerary? Well, we have been doing some investigating with 3rd party tour operators and doing some calculations and thinking of our own, and while we are still yet to actually do the journey ourselves, we feel this might be a ‘work in progress’ for us to include in our final ZigZag itinerary. We are not going to give up on this just yet. Watch this space...
